A friend disassemled
an Olds
Cutlass -80, and donated the brakeparts to me. Theese has same
lugsizes
and parts, as the Camaro, and suits the lugsize as the Fleetline.
Set s are possible to buy, but uses some unusual parts not
so easy to
get, ( at least here )
and some get some interfearence with steeringarm, and likewise
with lowered
spindlemount., so point was using most of the standard parts, and find
out how much needed of work to do the swap.
If your car is´nt souped up, the standard brakes is enough, at
least with a booster on.Small boosters are not difficult to find,
f.eks. Datsun 160/180 series, and is easily mounted also under floor.
Dont do
this swap if not correctly and secure!
Remember
its
the brakes, and your/ passengers safety youre working on!

On the
spindle orginal-50 inner wheelbearing-cup and dustshield
was mounted
with Loctite.
Then the
inner spindeldiameter was corrected to the Olds bearing at the
disc. Just outside of the Fleetline bearing cup. |
 |
Calipermount
is fabricated of 5mm solid qualitysteel, cutted to right
size and
adjusted caliperopening, with fixed mountholes.
The mount must have the right angel and shape to go clear for the
steeringarm, and that caliper dont interfear with other parts of
suspension/ wheel.
Here is the inner bearing also mounted.
Remenber to grease well! |
 |
To
get right angel of the mount against the disc, and right distance
for the caliper, distancecylinders (blue) are used on the bolts
who mounts the caliperholder to the spindel.
Lower mounting is exact fabricated to that distance.
When not ,the possibillity of quick wear or breakdown of the pads, or
more dangerous, wrong tension on the caliper could ruin it, or worse
break it! |
 |
Finished
mounting with disc and caliper.
The
orginal
outer olds bearing is also used here, with an adjusted shim
between the Olds bearing and the -50 spindle, fixed with
Locktite.
Caliper
mounting bolts are the orginal , adjusted to a clearence of
approx. 1,5mm
of
the disc.
(
pic has
testmounted ild disc.) |

Some
other
work is also progressed to do this swap.
The
brakelining/ hose connections and holders needs change of the org
-50s, they are not the right ones to fit the Olds
hoses.
And use
bearings in good shape, get new bolts for the bracket and
steeringarm, preffered selflocking type.
Wheelrims
has to be changed, for clearence of caliper, Olds or BMW rims
suits good.
