When
getting some sparetime, and seen the growth of this hobby, i´d
also got friends who tries draggin´me in. RC could be okay,
but as stubborn i am, i want it my way, also in style.
After seen the fun of it, i´d grab a 1/10 On-road chassie and
decided for electric power.
Iµ pretty oldfashion about gas consumption, but electric RC cars
are quicker, and give max engine power from bottom, not as an nitro
engine, so as i said, I DOES IT MY WAY!
Whatever, the choice of experimental body is decided of my other 1/1
car,
and with some fun experimenting, in building, it came of pretty good!
ok, it got some proposional adjustments to fit chassie, but the
familary lines are easy to spot.
2 steps was the minimum idea, possible for "burning" tires, and
raising/lowering of body rear. Of course style was important, and some
speed was not neglected......
Starting to make the mock of easy formed modelfoam. cutted and shaped.
When thats satisfactory, the "putty" came on for initial shaping,
smoothing and detailing.
The model is finished, although difficulties in fabrication did the
need of tailfins to be mocked up by it selfs, and mounted later.
Fabricated a form in fiberglass & polyester resin of the mock, to
get it hard & strong.
Waxed and with slip-liquid, i´d produced the body in epoxy with
adjusted measure of hardener. this to get it soft enough, without
breaking or cracking in small chraches.
Made up with thin woven cloth, the body was nearly flawless, thin,
light and soft as wanted at second try.
Testpainted on chassie.
The detailing starts, with mount of tailfins, lighthouses, lights,
lakepipes, grille, etc.
Lot of work was also done in modification of wheels to use chromed
hubcaps.
Some LED lamps with replicates light reflectors & working
singelbulb brakelights.
Detailed and twotone
painted, ready with numberplate's, suited on the chassie. Yet are the
parts for power, and fun, in completion.
Finish detailing, with thin polished alu as chromed bumper, trim, etc.
As electric RC it needed a ESC (electronic speed controler) ,here an
eZrun combo of 60A, and 3900kv brushless motor. Gives a lot of torque
& speed! (approx. 40 - 45mph).
The model is set up on a 3channel radiosystem for speed/brake, steering
and lowering/raising of the rear.
Youtube movie of the test. Lowering/raising of rear function!
